Sesshin (接心 — "touching heart-mind") is an intensive meditation retreat in Zen Buddhism. Participants immerse themselves in a focused environment, emphasizing silent meditation, mindfulness, and deep self-inquiry. During sesshin, practitioners engage in zazen (seated meditation), walking meditation (kinhin), and chanting, fostering a heightened awareness of the present moment with the guidance of a zen master. This sesshin is led by Genjo Roshi, abbot of Dai Bai Zan Cho Bo Zen Ji, who has over half a century of experience in practice and teaching of zen. The retreat aims to facilitate profound insights, break through mental barriers, and deepen spiritual understanding. It is a transformative experience that encourages a direct encounter with one's true nature.

In the midst of our fast-paced, ever-connected world, there exists an ancient practice that quietly invites us to pause, reflect, and return to the essence of life. Sesshin, rooted in the heart of Zen tradition, offers more than just a retreat—it is a journey into stillness, an exploration of self-awareness, and a path to profound personal growth. In Japanese, sesshin means "touching the heart-mind," and through this experience, you’ll discover the beauty and power of investing in yourself at the deepest level.
In Zen, simplicity is revered as a path to clarity. Japanese culture teaches us to find beauty in stillness and subtlety, and Sesshin embodies this wisdom. It strips away the distractions and demands of daily life, allowing you to immerse in the pure experience of the present moment. Whether through seated meditation (zazen) or mindful walking (kinhin), Sesshin helps you return to a place of inner quiet, where the rush of modern life is replaced by the peace of simplicity.
We often think of self-improvement as striving for external success or acquiring new skills, but the deepest form of growth begins from within. Sesshin offers a powerful opportunity to invest in yourself by cultivating inner resilience, clarity, and self-awareness. Through extended periods of meditation, you will develop the ability to observe your thoughts, emotions, and patterns without attachment. This practice doesn’t just improve your ability to meditate—it transforms how you navigate the challenges of life, bringing greater calm, focus, and presence into everything you do.
In the silence of Sesshin, we reconnect with our true selves. In this practice, we discover the concept of silence, not as absence, but as presence—a form of communication that transcends words. During this retreat, you’ll immerse yourself in silence, allowing space for deep reflection. It is in this quiet space that you can shed the mental clutter of daily life and gain a fresh perspective on your priorities, your path, and your purpose.
In the rush of modern life, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters. Sesshin invites you to step away from external demands and reconnect with your core values and inner truth. Through mindful practices and moments of stillness, you’ll find the mental clarity to see what is truly important in your life. Whether you seek personal growth, deeper self-awareness, or a sense of peace, this retreat offers the tools to realign with your most authentic self.
We often invest in external aspects of our lives—our careers, our possessions, our image—but how often do we invest in the foundation of it all—our inner selves? Sesshin is a profound act of self-care and self-investment. It gives you the time and space to nourish your mind and spirit, fostering a deep inner transformation that lasts long after the retreat is over. The clarity, balance, and strength you gain in Sesshin will ripple into every area of your life, from your relationships to your career, making it one of the most valuable investments you can make.
